Faith and Racial Equity: Exploring Power and Privilege
Join us for this 8-week JustFaith class to be held on Tuesday nights in the Lounge at fpcw, from 6:30-8 pm, beginning October 8. Our Adult Faith Formation team is co-sponsoring this class with our friends across the street at St. Francis Xavier. The class awakens groups to the economic systems, public policies, cultural norms, and hidden biases that empower some and oppress others. The class introduces a framework for understanding how power and privilege influence racial disparities. Most of all, we will explore how our faith informs our response to what we are learning, as well as have time to discern action steps for working toward racial equity in our community. To cover the class materials, we ask for a $50 registration fee. If that is a burden, please let us know and we will find a way to help. To sign up, contact Elder Irris Boaz (iboaz@ameritech.net) or Pastor Jeff Lehn at (jlehn@fpcw.org). Learn more at justfaith.org or by contacting our co-facilitators, Vic Doucette (vic.doucette@gmail.com), or Mary Doucette (doucette.mary@gmail.com).
